HOPE + JOY + PEACE

There's going to be a definite delay in handling over the house to us. I really have a lot to rant off here. The implications and the inconvenience of being delayed in moving in. The list could go on.

When the contractor took 18 days just to fix the kitchen wall tiles and floor tiles, I knew there's going to be a problem. How can they (the contractor) finish up the rest of the work within 16 days?

True enough, each time we went over to check on the progress, there's always mistakes. Not the minor types eg. fixing the accessories wrongly, but major stuff eg. wrong kitchen cabinet height.

Just 3 days into supposedly handover, we discovered that the living room tiles were so badly tiled that it was impossible to accept. What was more absurd the reason given for doing our living room floor in a slope fashion. Who in the right frame, or logic thinking would do such a flooring that's slopping down? How to place furniture?!

We hacked up all the floor tiles and they could screed it to make it even. All these rubbish explanations just make me wonder, do they think we are just a pair of ignorant country bumpkins that would just take whatever is shoved in our face?

As of now, the outstanding issues include:

1. Hack the living room floor again and screed it even. Re-lay the floor tiles.

Implications : the shoe cabinet's body is in, the laminated flooring is done. The glass sliding door for the kitchen is installed. I don't know how the hacking is going to be done without damaging the shoe cabinet and the laminated flooring and the glass door. With this long weekend and holiday season, there's a question on when the hacking license would be issued. How much time is needed for this major rectification?

2. Wrong kitchen cabinet height.

Current situation : Took down the whole lower part of the kitchen cabinet. Re-do the whole lower kitchen cabinet. Re-install and now, is not done. Doors and drawers missing. Solid top is not ready.

3. Chipped Kitchen Wall tiles

Not changed yet. Expect us to accept it because "sometimes when the workers do the tiling, they may accidentally chip off" Crap! Why not tell the whole world your workmanship sucks to the bottom!

4. Bathroom wall tiles and entrance tiles

Wrongful location of water heater left unnecessary holes, 7 to be exact on the master bedroom toilet. Project manager offered to change the bathroom tiles. No action taken till now. And using the wrong tile for the entrance of the bathroom. Not changed yet.

While the rest of the bathroom accessories were installed correctly, I cannot say for the toilet paper holders. It could be placed in a more considerate position.

5. Shoe cabinet + Built in Wardrobe

Shoe cabinet - no shelves and no door. Built in Wardrobe - gaps in the doors. Project Manager said they will add in another piece to fill in the gaps. Wonder why they can't do it properly with the doors.

It was a good thing we sub con out the laminating flooring and the aircon to other companies to do it.

You may wonder why we never check on this renovating company before engaging them? Reasons on why we engaged them -

1. They did my MIL's kitchen and toilets recently. While there were problems, it was the minor types.

2. Their quote was within our budget.

Come to think which is better? To have the renovation cost fitted into our budget so that we have the money for furnishing, but in the process, suffer from frustration and anguish. Got house but cannot move in.

OR

Engaged the branded ID company which is out of budget, we probably have moved in but without much furnishing. No need to suffer from any frustration or anguish.

Wasted my 2 weeks leave for nothing. So hard to get cleaner to come in, with a delay and approaching CNY, it would be even harder. Have to call up all the deliveries and postponed them.

Is there any HOPE, JOY and PEACE left?
