Natural Science Museum

Haze has taken overcome Singapore the last week and it dampened the Public Holiday on Thursday. I was still hoping we could go to the beach or the park for some sun and ride. We woke up to a hazy day and was still deliberating where to go and what to do. It wasn't till almost lunch that we decided to make a quick trip to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum , better known as the Natural Science Museum. Located in National University of Singapore, next to the University Cultural Centre, it is an eye-catching building by itself. Picture Source :  The Straits Times The museum houses a large biodiversity of specimens from plants to trees, fossils to bones, small nematode worms to Japanese Spider Crab (Arthropoda), smallest mammal to biggest mammal to date, this museum fascinates all ages. Of course, the highlight of the museum is the three dinosaurs bones on display. Dino Dino Dino The three sauropod fossils are secured with metal frame and stand majesticall

Selfie with a twist

In my Kitchen I did a selfie with my RX to test out this function. I am glad that it came with SMART function. By reversing the screen, it automatically detected my face. At the press of the shutter button, it started count down. Great feature and certainly great fun for me!

Yummy Mooncake

Image
I love snowskin mooncakes. This year, I bought a box of Peony Jade mini snowskin under their frutti series. The taste wasn't that fantastic. Then this week, I got another box of mini snowskin from Bakerzin which I would recommend. I bought their Bliss collection which has alcoholic contents. Bakerzin's Moon Rabbit series - comes with a bag, gift box and 8 mini snowskin Bliss Collecttion : (from top left) Dry Gin, Kirsch, Rum, Irish Cream Retail price was at $60 but I paid $48.15 after corporate discount which was really worth it. For $48.15, I have 8 pieces of the mini snowskin with 2 per flavours. On top of that, I received a matchy tote bag and a gift box for my purchase. My colleagues joked I paid for the bag and get my moon cakes free. Rum  Kirsch Dry Gin Irish Cream I just had a small piece of the mooncakes. In order of my preference, I would go for Dry Gin, Rum, Kirsch and Irish Cream. I supposed these mooncakes won't st

My New Toy - Sony RX 100 III

Image
In 2012 December, I thought I got myself a pretty decent camera to capture the little troopers' action. Turned out that it wasn't that ideal. Although it did have those multiple shot with one click, I later found out that it came with conditions which defeated my purpose. After 3 years, I think it's high time to move on. So I did with Sony. Sony wasn't my preferred choice but I was won over by it's compact size, ability to match my requirement - low light, fast action, macro shot. source from Sony  I didn't get its latest addition, RX 100 IV because the difference between RX 100 III and IV is that the new model came with slow-motion and 4K video function. But for that to happen, a memory card with higher write speed is required, which of course is pricey. On top of that, using such video function would eat up quite a huge chunk of memory space. So the question is : Do I really need such function? With my new toy in hand, I started to practice sho

Jonathan's 4th

My little boy has turned 4! We started his birthday celebration with a small family gathering with my side. Ordered Qi Ji's nasi lemak set and popiah and it fed well for a small party. Thomas Cake from Polar Unlike last year, I didn't order any fanciful cake for him. It's a 0.5kg small Thomas train cake from Polar and birthday boy was happy enough. I was happy too that there wasn't too much of leftover. Birthday celebration then continued in school with his class. His birthday cake was from Pine Garden. fresh cream hazelnut choc cake cake topper on our own I enquired from a few bakers which charged me easily over $250 for a 2kg fondant cake although I specified that I wanted a very simple train cake. One baker charged me $350 which I thought was just too exorbitant. For this Pine Garden's cake with delivery, it was less than $120. The cake topper was a Mac Donald's Happy Meal toy which I stumbled upon in my store room. With his classm

Sunday Folks

Image
I heard a lot about Sunday Folks at Chip Bee Garden and there was always a long queue. I finally managed to get a table on a weekday afternoon with hub on a spontaneous date. The place was filled with school kids and only a handful of adults. It did made us feel quite out of place. I had a flat white and we had a regular waffles with dark chocolate ice cream to share. my flat white regular waffles with dark choc ice cream Verdict : Hmm… nothing special to shout out. Flat white was too acidic for my like. Regular waffles with dark chocolate ice cream was too sweet. I guess with the ice cream, there wasn't a need for the maple syrup at the side. Probably won't attempt a 2nd visit.

Li Bai - A Restaurant Review Lunch Date

Image
I got invited for a restaurant review. To set the record right, not by the restaurant nor by any publication. My friend invited me and 2 other friends to make up a party of 4 to complete her assignment of restaurant reviews. You see, my friend is an etiquette coach and writer and she has a long working relationship with Tatler on writing articles for the publication. So it was my first while the rest were veterans. We went and ordered our lunch as it was any normal gathering with friends. However, we ordered the mandatory dishes to try. I won't comment much on the dishes we tried but blogging about this experience instead. table placement My friend did some explanation that the plate and the ring holder for the napkin are made of real jade. The chopsticks are with silver, precious metal and the restaurant charges if you would like to take home as souvenirs. Fried Cod Rolls Crystal Dumplings Li Bai is well known for their dim sums so we had 2 varieties
