Taiwan Day 7 - Taipei 自由行

Finally we woke up to a great morning because the weather finally turned cooler. This was the kind of weather we were hoping to get when we were at Taiwan but it only happened at the 2nd last day of our trip. Nonetheless, this was the day we would be going around Taipei by ourselves.

First stop was breakfast at MacDonald's which turned out that they didn't have any more breakfast by 10am! So we weren't sure what to order since the kids don't eat burgers. They only attacked the fries. Somehow, we managed to grab a table at this multi-storey Mac and again the boys started to bicker for some nonsensical stuff.

When we could finally moved on to take a train down to Taipei 101, the streets were filling in with people and more people. We spent a while at the train station, figuring their ticket purchasing system. Eventually we figured out that children ride for free. So we took the train, followed the map, changed the train and reached Taipei 101.

Taipei101

the happiest time in this trip

Taipei101 was really for Jonathan. He was into these sky scrappers so we ensured we would come here and ride the fastest elevator to the highest permissible level, just for our Jonathan.

We went to the counter and was told that the weather wasn't good, so the outdoor deck would be closed. Visibility was impaired too so we decided to head for Ding Tai Fung for lunch. The queue was indeed very very very long. We waited almost 1hour plus for a table and in between, we took turns to take the boys for some shopping to kill the time.

After lunch, the weather condition was still the same so we decided to go ahead with our plan.

very pleased with the tickets

doing a quick snapshot

The experience I believed would last Jonathan for a lifetime. He took his time and view all directions from the observation deck while I stayed with Matthew.

The younger boy wasn't attracted and often wandered aimlessly. This was not ideal because there were many tourists on that day. In the end, we spent easily half a day at Taipei 101 before returning. On the mid way, we decided to visit the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正纪念堂) impromptu.

It was a good decision although it was drizzling, the free space allowed them to run and play in the light rain and it made the boys very happy.

It was also a good thing we bought them a windbreaker because it was waterproof and the jacket was just right for that kind of weather. We stayed almost till 7pm before we headed back. We headed back to minsu while hubby made a quick dash to buy the famous 阿宗面线 at 西门丁。

I found it so-so but the queue was apparently very long too. The younger boy was too tired to venture out so the father and him stayed back. I took Jonathan, with my mum to walk around 西门丁 for shopping and more food. In the end, I bought another luggage and we went Starbucks for some coffee and cake.

It was close to midnight again when everyone turned in for the night while I got some me time for myself.

Enjoying some local fruity beer which tasted more like fruit juice than anything else, and the Belgium waffles I bought at Taipei 101. This is how I spend my last night in Taipei, fruity beer and Belgium waffles.
