Up and away…

Post Dated Entry

In the last weekend of July, we made a trip up to Genting Highlands with my parents. Believe it or not, we endure a long coach journey of 6 hours to get to the top.

Started on a Saturday morning at 6.15am which we gathered at the designated meeting point. The coach was slightly late but it was a new fitting coach, much to our delight. After clearing both customs, we had a short break at Yong Peng. The boys had some noodles and we set off again. The boys managed to get some sleep in coach and we finally reached just before 2pm.

It was a long walk from First World Hotel lobby where the hotel shuttle dropped us to our Resort Hotel. For those not familiar with Genting Highlands, the whole theme park is undergoing major renovation. The outdoor theme park was totally demolished and there would be a new theme park modelled after 20th Century Fox theme and a new hotel. Because of this major renovation, the original walk of 5 minutes became 20 minutes with multiple escalators climb.

Finally checked into our hotel room which was adjoining with my parents. For the very first time, I didn't took any photos of our hotel room or lobby. In fact, the whole trip had very few photos. I didn't even use my Olympus camera which I brought along.

Day 1 was used to walk around the hotel vicinity and get ourselves familiar with the bearings. After the boys' nap, we went out for a steamboat dinner which was really yummy and reasonably priced. Then it was another walk around the indoor theme park before we called it a night.

Day 2 breakfast was at Old Town, located at hotel basement. The plan was to take the cable car down to mid hill for strawberry park.

The Genting Skyway

We enjoyed the cable ride a lot, perhaps of the adventure that it was a real long cable car ride, spanning a distance of at least 3km, and it was a foggy morning. We went from totally misty to clear view as we approached mid-valley.

After we settled the boys' toilet needs, we got 2 cabs to bring us to strawberry park.

You need to pay an entrance fee to get into strawberry park and the taxi driver was nice enough to enquire for us. Then you picked a basket with a scissors and you go into the park to pick your own strawberries.

It was quite an eye opener for me as I didn't know how a strawberry plant looks like. When you are done with your strawberries harvesting, we brought it to a counter for it to be weighed and then you paid for your pick. We didn't pick a lot as we knew we have to finish them before we returned home.

Besides the strawberry farm, you can go into the flower market, the honey farm and mushroom farm. It was quite a big area but we walked rather quickly to try to head back before lunch hour.

It was clear and sunny at mid-valley and as we approached the Genting Highlands, it got more and more foggy.

totally fogged out

We then had buffet lunch at Genting Grand hotel but the boys were getting too cranky. Matt even slept at his baby chair with his head resting on table. In the end, hubby brought Jon back to hotel room to sleep while I quickly finished up my lunch. Then I brought a sleeping Matt back to hotel room so that Hubby could continue his lunch.

While the boys were napping the room, we used this time to explore the casino. But our exploration was cut short because Jon suddenly woke up, crying and screaming and my mum had to quickly call us to return. So we took him to the Coffee Bean at hotel lobby to idle time away.

Dinner was at Hainanese eatery, not fantastic though. After which, we brought the boys to take the indoor theme park rides and enjoy the mall view.

We made the boys sleep early and we ventured to the casino. We had a small win fall and treated my parents supper. However, our happiness was short-lived because Jon suddenly woke up, crying the house down when he realised we were not around. The maid had to quickly scoped Matt away from the screaming boy. And because Jon cried so loud and so much, he started to cough more and vomited in the hotel room.

Gosh, it was really bad to be confined in a room with the puke. Luckily it was our last night and on departure day, we had a light breakfast and then a dim sum brunch before we checked out and headed back.

While there was not much for the boys to do, the cooling weather was welcomed. Plus ringgit was low so it made spending easier too.
