How much does my impatience cost?

Sometime this year, just before Jon turned 5, I brought the boys to the Polyclinic to get a development assessment. I wouldn't have thought of doing a development assessment if not for the prompter from the mummies group. Oh well, I made an appointment and we reached there ahead of our appointment time. However, we did not expect that our appointment time could be hijacked by vaccination babies who needed a quick check up.

Then problem started. Jonathan did not score a perfect eyesight check and the nurse gave me an option to get a specialist referral or wait 6 months. I didn't think straight at the point. So I just agreed to wait. That's a bad decision. Because after that, I couldn't shake off the feeling I should have gotten a referral to get his eyesight thoroughly checked.

Small brother around the same period, received from various teachers that he wasn't paying attention well in classes. Red flags raised everywhere. Could it be small brother, Matt had some eyesight problem as well?

The husband thought to get their eyesight check at optical shop. Hmm... apparently, the optometrist advised us to get an appointment with ophthalmologist instead as their result at optical shop might be inaccurate as they could not really differentiate in the eye test especially for children under 7 of age. So started the search of an ophthalmologist and alas, I couldn't stand the wait at polyclinic again so we called up their Paediatrician who referred us to Dr Alicia How at Gleneagles.

We brought the children down last Wednesday. I didn't expect the check to be so thorough. From front to the back of the eyes, they took snapshot of their eye balls and interior of the eyes. The boys went through 3D check, colour blindness check, lazy eyes check etc. The final conclusion : Their eyesights are perfect. Although Matt trailed behind the vision test, his result was acceptable since he hadn't really hit 4 yet.

But for the piece of mind... it came at a cost of $330 per child and that was with discount given.

I thought it wasn't fair to list the breakdown
but the details of the eyesight check explained the cost too.

We could have gone by the subsidy route but I was too impatient to wait. So for my impatience, we have to fork out $600+ to get a definitive answer.
