Matthew's 1st Lunar Birthday
6 Dec 2013 (十一月初四) was Matthew's lunar birthday. We celebrated the same way as we did for Jonathan with home cooked mee sua (面线), chicken drumsticks and eggs. We also had a birthday cake and a simplified 抓周.
very happy with his feast |
i luv his smiley face here |
婆婆 was here to celebrate with Matthew and as per tradition, she fed him with the mee sua.
looking onto his mee sua |
drumstick drumstick |
Except that Matt was not keen to eat his birthday feast. I have 2 boys that would not open their mouth easily to food. He push away the mee sua and drumsticks as if they were poisonous meat.
so happy |
All children love birthday and Matthew was no exception. Luv his smiley face here and there.
cutting cake |
After the birthday song and symbolic cake cutting, we proceeded to 抓周. We did a simplified version with items similiar to Jonathan's time.
our 抓周 basket |
Pen - to signify good writer/ poet/ scholarly
Calculator - to signify good in accounting
Measuring tape - to signify a career in tailoring/ designing/ building
Money - to signify good fortune/ businessman
"Cong" 葱 - to signify intelligence
Garlic 蒜 - similar to calculator
As usual, we placed the basket a distance away and let him walked towards it. He walked and walked in glee towards the basket.

He didn't need to think. He headed straight to the .......
