1st Lunar Birthday

This is to make up for Jonathan's actual birthday. Poor baby was so sick during his birthday that we had to cancel all birthday celebration. Today is his exact Lunar Birthday and we decided to throw him a small celebration.

There's the traditional hard boiled eggs with mee sua. Big chicken drumstick to symbolize a good life with plenty to eat.

We boiled the chicken drumstick instead. Jonathan wasted no time in savoring his chicken drumstick.

I'm a grown up now! I eat mee sua!

We bought those handmade mee sua who is supposed to be lower in salt content. Yet, we still rinsed it through water twice before serving to the little king.

I'm surprised that Jonathan is keen to try out all food. I guess he has reached another milestone. Taking in the egg yolk very well.


After all the feasting, we prepared the items for 抓周. This is an ancient way of predicting what the baby would be like in future. Goggled for information and it seemed that this tradition started during the Three Kingdoms period. For us, it's more of fun than anything.

We simplified the list to our modern world.

Pen - to signify good writer/ poet/ scholarly
Calculator - to signify good in accounting
Measuring tape - to signify a career in tailoring/ designing/ building
Money - to signify good fortune/ businessman
"Cong" 葱 － to signify intelligence
Garlic 蒜 － similar to calculator


We placed the tray a distance from Jonathan and let him crawl towards it. Guess what!

He headed straight for the pen. Looks like he's into writing... that's better than playing! Haha..

Big Boss

Jonathan's getting sleepy so we quickly have the cake cutting ceremony. Check out how little king sits, like a big boss!

Yeah! 

I think he really enjoys having birthday cake and song! Wishing my little baby toddler always good health, always happy.

To have a happy ending, we let Jonathan try a tiny bit of this Raspberry Seduction from Prima Deli.
