August - The Preparation Month

Image
With me stepping into my 33rd week, I have devoted the entire August to finish and finalize everything to welcome our little Prince into our world. 1st on the list - to get the baby cot delivered. We actually ordered this Bebe Mignon baby cot during OG's baby fair in May. For $325, the baby cot came with a 4" foam mattress, a changing tray and a set of bedding. Delivery and installation included. We picked oak colour to match with the rest of the house decor. Baby cot can be converted to a toddler bed when time comes. With this baby cot, Xiao Poh's room is packed with all his goodies sprawled all over the floor. To be honest, I can't stand the mess in his room. So I have written down a To Do list for his papa. Starting from today, I am beginning my 2nd round of washing. That's all the Xiao Poh's clothes and bedding sets. Then I'm going to go Ikea to buy boxes to keep his toys. Intending to clean them and keep them, so we don't have to rush through all ...

Center of Attraction

Image
Xiao Poh is still incubating in my womb but it doesn't stop people from showering him with gifts. And of course, not forgetting his parents who's forever buying him clothes, toys and whatever he might need. Blessed baby, aren't you Xiao Poh? =D

Medela Freestyle

Image
After much consideration, I decided to invest on a dual electronic breastpump system. This is on top of my Avent single manual pump. Did a quick survey with the mummies and Medela Freestyle is their top choice. But retail price really rocked my off my socks. Mothercare is selling at $990!!! and the cheapest I "heard" at baby fair retailed at $750. So when one of the forum mummies organised the Medela spree, I took the plunge. This is the whole setup for Medela Freestyle with handsfree option. Plan is to use Avent at work and Medela at home. Finally after a month's waiting, my Medela has arrived. I was really surprised everything was contained in the bag. And I'm glad I haven't bought a cooler bag for milk delivery. Medela Freestyle package came with this nice cooler bag with the cooling unit. Fits 4 bottles too. The electronic gadget parts.... And all the accessories.... Paid $435.50 including of shipping fees. The only downside is a US set so you need an adapter...

We Welcome the Latest Addition

Image
Check out my new toy! Compliment from Darren! With this latest addition, I now have quite a complete Apple family - iPhone, Mac book and a iPad! Woah!!

Another Free Sample!

Image
Last Monday when I opened my letter box, I saw these 2 A4 sizes envelopes from Kimberly-Clark. I was momentarily lost, what kind of spree I joined that had products from Kimberly-Clark. Upon further inspection, I realised it was the free diaper samples I requested many months ago. I had totally forgotten about it. The free diaper sample came in nice waterproof carrier which I think would be very useful. Though it would be some time before Xiao Poh gets to use a medium size, there's no harm in always preparing for the future!

Romancing Russia

Image
Ms Momo Peach alerted me to this piano recital some months ago. I wasn't sure if I could attend until last week. Romancing Russian - a piano solo recital by upcoming pianist Chisato Kusunoki. The autobiography introduced Chisato born in Germany but lived in Japan at the age of 2 to 13. Her piano performance career was colourful, having won many prestigious awards. She is also a steinway artist. To qualify as a steinway artist, you have to be of certain calibre. Our own local piano prodigy, Abigail Sim is one of the talented pianists selected to enjoy this privilege. As a steinway artist, you can practice in any of their studio worldwide for free. As for this brand Steinway, I would say it is like Louis Vuitton to a fashionista and Steinway to a pianist. Last evening, Darren, Xiao Poh and myself enjoyed this intriguing piano recital for free. Thanks to Ms Momo Peach again. While I personally am not into so much of late romantic period music (I'm more of a Classical period fan ....

Refreshing Coconut

Image
I recently got hooked onto online sprees. When the September mummies gather together to order coconut drinks, I jumped into the bandwagon as well. This was the selected brand out of the many in the supermarkets. The price per drink was slashed to $1.90 from the retail price of $2.60 at Cold Storage. A carton box holds 24 drinks but I got my deal for 12 drinks which amounted to $22.80 Chilled one of the coconut drinks after receiving my carton. Sipped it last night and found it to be refreshingly lite and fragnant. The myth or truth behind this coconut drink that mummies drink at their last trimester is to clear away the sticky stuff found on baby. A more logical reason is that when preggie lady enters her last trimester, the heat generated is too overwhelming. So having a cooling drink helps. For myself, I am pretty overheated all the time. I took my first coconut drink at week 31 (which happened yesterday). Planning to take one coconut drink per week to cool myself down.

All for Lor Mee?

Image
Darren loves Lor Mee, especially Tiong Bahru Lor Mee. He thought he found the right authentic Lor Mee after the hawker centre upgraded. And so he thought it was 178 Lor Mee. I even made a post on this 178 Lor Mee back in 2009. So when Mediacorp's show "Timeless Treats" featured this authentic Lor Mee, we felt that we should go and try it. This morning, we supposedly went for 8.30am Church service so that we could go try this authentic Tiong Bahru Lor Mee. Photo Source : http://forums.vr-zone.com/photopost/data/500/Bukit_Purmei_Lor_Mee_.JPG We reached Bukit Purmei Blk 109 at 10.40am. The queue to the Lor Mee stretched all the way to the back of the Kopitiam. Almost everyone seated at the Kopitiam was there for the Lor Mee. Darren queued for an hour, before he came back with our Lor Mee. 黑 Ice Cream - By Awfully Chocolate

Image
I am a fan of Awfully Chocolate! Used to have their chocolate cake quite frequently. I really love their lush sponge chocolate cake with that dark chocolate mousse on it. Over the years, I know that they have ventured or diversified to different or more dessert choices. I have not yet tried all of them. Yesterday I was at Sembawang (Thomson) vicinity and spotted Awfully Chocolate. I went in and ordered myself a single scope of their 黑 Ice Cream. Photo Source : http://www.awfullychocolate.com/thecake_icecream.php It was really awesome! Priced at $3.80 for a single scoop, it makes such a sweet cooling treat for a hot day! Foxy Babes

Image
I always feel that I don't have enough clothes for my baby boy. So whenever I see a sale, I tend to pick up one or two items. This time round, Fox babies is having a sale. Most of their ranges are for pretty little girls, nothing much for cute boys. I only managed to pick up 2 rompers (size 12-18 months) after rummaging their shelves. And each time I bought new clothes for Xiao Poh, I would then wonder if I have overdone it or whether I should have gotten him a smaller size or bigger size. Sounds pretty confusing to me! Ahaha..

Boy Boy shirts and pants

Image
Finish up the last round of baby's clothes washing. Last wash went to boy's shirts and pants. I think it will be at least 2 years before Xiao Poh gets to wear them. Meanwhile, these clothes will go into vacuum pack and storage.

Something New; Something Blue; Something B

Image
There's a parcel in my letterbox yesterday. We opened it and found this. Our new steam iron? Ahaa... this is actually one of the many online sprees I have joined. It's actually a Braun Thermometer. I bought it in case Xiao Poh needs to have his temperature taken. Local retail price is $135. I paid $63.11 inclusive of normal postage. The thermometer came with 20 len filters, the thermometer and its cover, except that warranty is not valid in Singapore. Good deal or not?

Born to Read; Read to Bond

Image
We have been borrowing library books and reading to Xiao Poh every night. Yet, we didn't know about the newborn kit from Library until one of the forum mummies mentioned it. 2 weeks ago, we collected the newborn kit... Mummy just need to produce NRIC and filled in a form at any library branch for this free newborn kit. Daddy can also collect on baby or mummy's behalf. Inside the pack, there's the growth chart, a baby CD, baby book list and a journal to record all the significant moments. I think the journal will be more useful to me. Will definitely be using it to record down Xiao Poh's growing milestones!

Hospital Bag - Nightie

Image
Bought 2 front button nighties for use in hospital and during confinement. Brand is Karmy, a highly raved brand from the forum mummies. The material is super comfortable but the design is blah. These 2 nighties plus one another I got from Blush some years ago, I guess should be sufficient during hospital stay.

Confinement Prep

Image
Although we have hired a confinement lady from GPLS Confinement Agency, we need to take care of her lodging when she is here. So we bought two foldable mattresses. Actually one will be for the confinement lady and another is for my post-natal massage. Pillow case and bedsheets all washed. Comforter and cushion for her, if she needs.

Changing Mat Topic

Image
We bought 2 changing mats at the last motherhood & baby expo. I missed out washing the mats on Round 1. This round, I soaked the changing mats and hand washed them. Now they are all dry and clean. Puku for home use Foldable Changing Mat for outdoor use

Handburger - 1st & last time

Image
Last Sunday, we wanted to utilize our 313 Somerset vouchers so we purposely made a trip down to 313 Somerset. Decided to have our dinner there and we chose Handburger. I vaguely remember the reviews were quite good. We both had the same order - Handburger Original + Buffalo wings It wasn't crowded though it was dinner so our order came quite fast. We both chose Caesar Salad as our salad. Nothing good or no good about the Caesar Salad. But the burger was.... downright lousy. I never tasted or eaten such a dry beef patty. The meat patty was too dry and too tough. It didn't help that the bun was also toasted dry. And I felt cheated with their Buffalo wings. Basically it was just fried chicken wings with chilli sauce. And our bill came up to $44. It was my 1st time there and my last time there.
