mini update: renovation woes

It was a good thing we decided to pop by our new place to take a look on the renovation progress. It was a pity I didn't bring my camera with me. Everything we wanted to hack off was done. So you can imagine the state of the house now. Right... just sand and more sand everywhere. And being a Saturday we didn't really expect anyone working but there were 2 workers working on the kitchen wall tiles. And that's when the trouble started.... Wrong orientation of the titles. Instead of laying down vertically, the tilers placed the tile horizontally. Phone calls made. Arguments exchanged. Verdict: workers to take it all down and lay them up again. We decided to drop by again. They had swiftly took down the tiles and re-tiled the kitchen again in the orientation we want. But I'm not too happy with the gap between the tiles. Looks to me that it's kinda big. This also reminds me that the project manager has not shown us the 3D drawing of our flat design. Sigh! Perhaps this i...

mini update: dining set

Image
We have long set our eyes on the Picket & Rail's dining set. The price was good and the whole set was small enough to fit into the kitchen. Made with solid wood and in walnut colour, we couldn't ask for more. But this was the only purchase we had after a whole day of walking around the furniture mall.

Secret Garden

Image
Simplicity is not the theme of our wedding. Actually, if we have more $$$, the whole church should be decked out like a garden. But the florist who did our bridal car, I think they are really good. The flowers lasted for the whole night and day and is still blooming well.. To me, they look like cabbage flower... very unique I only have a few snap shots of the bridal car flowers after it had being removed. I hope the photographers took good photos of the car with the flowers because the flowers deserved to be showed off....

as simple as it can gets

Image
Further on to our "Simplicity" wedding, even our bedside lamps are simplified to such practical extent. Found these 2 stick-on LED lights very economical and practical. Pasted the 喜喜 sticker all over the 2 lights and Viola!!! Very useful at night indeed.

return of the Bride

haha... sounds like the title of a scary movie ;p am back!! I didn't forget about my Apple diary, promising to record down the microscopic happenings in an apple's life. The Weding Day went very well. I must admit that it is something really special. To breakdown on the special-ness (like any good scientist), here's my digression of what had happened. 1. First and above all, thank you Abba Father for such a beautiful and joyous day. If you could recall, it was raining continuously for days before 21 Nov and we were all worried about the bridal car, about moving around in the wet weather. But on the eve, after the bridal car was polished, the rain stopped and stayed that way till we were completely done with our wedding. 2. the nightmare of a bride - time of the month. Happened on the eve but yet, there wasn't any trouble at all on that day. Enough said. 3. The whole process was so smooth, better than I have expected. Seriously, I was really taken by surprise on how the ...

Saved by His angel

I thought I will share this here. Yesterday, I was on my way, after work, to Holland Village for facial. While walking towards there, it suddenly rained heavily. So there I was, carrying my bag, another paper bag on hand and my umbrella. The incident happened at the sheltered carpark. With so many things on hand and cars moving in and out, I was not careful enough to observe there's a kerb along the carpark lots. I tripped over one of the kerbs and was almost flying to the ground, face down and onto the path of a reversing car. And there suddenly, I found myself balancing and standing straight up on my two legs. Everything happened very fast and I was expecting to see myself falling very hard onto the road. And miraculously, I didn't even suffer a single abrasion and not fogetting i got a "fragile" back. I am reminded of Psalm 91 : 11 - 12 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that...

Undergoing Changes

Kinda worried about the house renovation. I hope we made the right choice in engaging the project manager to do the work. Heard that they are going to start hacking on Thursday. Of course, they should. Check on my account and they have already cleared the cheque. Went to Deful Ave 1 on last Sat to select the tiles. Didn't want to go back to Toh Guan factory where there's an experience but fierce "Lao Shi". At Defu Ave 1, there was no "love at first sight" with the tiles. Everything was selected because they were the next best choices. Told him yesterday about my feelings regarding the tiles. Even if we go and re-select somewhere else, it is going to be the same few tiles. Because the criteria is the same. Everything I have envisioned for the house seems to be vanishing. The next appt for the house will be on 23 Nov. To select all the bathrooms' fixtures and accessories. Not exactly looking forward to it because it is rather stressful to decide there and ...

Ageing Robo

Image
Can't help but feel that Robo is ageing.. Sigh* And I think he is not photogenic unlike my other hamsters. And very difficult to photograph. Not even with cheese ball. And this is the best he can do. Kinda look sad to me too :(

The honour goes to him...

Mumble of Happy Feet takes center stage! And it shall be a Happy Day!

REFLECTION

Left about 6 more days to the big celebration. Many people are asking me if I'm nervous? If I'm excited? If I'm happy? Honestly speaking, I've been feeling rather moody. The whole wedding things sometimes really spun out of control and the cost is ever escalating. Put aside the cost factor, to pull off everything requires tremendous effort and time, not just on my own but also people who are roped in to help. Actually, there's a number of things that really won't bother me at all. For eg. the places where the buffet lines can be set up. Or whether the chairs in the halls are enough (even if it's not enough, I trust my helpers to sort it for me). Or whether the hall has enough decorations. Or whether the bands needs to don a colour coordinated shirts. Or how should the photo album be placed... etc What I am concerned: 1. My wedding rings are handed over to us safely. 2. My Ang Bao box is not missing. 3. My photo album is still in a good condition after all th...

a Conflict of both

Image
This morning, we had the Betrothal Process 纳彩 , 下娉 or 过大礼 as you would have called it. This is part of a Chinese Customary Wedding but we have modernized and simplified the whole process that we feel that it becomes a conflict of trying to retain the Chinese customary wedding tradition and yet, cutting down the bits we deemed as unnecessary to relieve ourselves of the stress of getting it done. It is a conflict and a dilemma but the show still has to go on... Introducing the simplified gifts from the Groom's family as you can see, most of the stuff were represented by the red packets. We didn't even have the proper basket. Not losing out in simplicity, the Bride's family returned the gesture with... oranges and more oranges. Please note that both sets of parents have met and agreed mutually that simple is the best. We are just happy with the convenience.

Boys' Nite Out

The boys are having their nite's out. Wonder what's it like?

Uncertainity

家家有本难念的经 Just trusting in the LORD that He will provide us with everything we need. " Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5 : 16 - 18

Finally the Ang Bao Box is ready to face the world. A little different from what I have planned initially. But I'm grateful for Darren, helping me to wrap up the box and my mum for inputting her ideas. A box of love...

From the Fairy(s)

Image
Finally collected our wedding bands. We didn't get a fanciful design but something we both wanted. It's expensive no doubt but the service was really good. The Fairy people replated his ring as a stubborn dirt can't be removed. And surprisingly, they managed to engrave so many letters on my thin band. I'm impressed. I'm happy. Full Stop.

a Wedding Prayer

Image
Was surprised when the lawyer contacted us and informed us the sellers left a present for us. Finally retrieved the present. It was a meaningful gift. 2 books on "the Power of Praying husband" and "the Power of Praying wife" by Stormie Omartian. And a card. Picture Source : Amazon.com Really appreciated that!

A Wedding Tradition

Image
Last Thursday I was invited to a Bridal Lunch hosted by my church friends and one of them gave me these European Wedding Traditional Gifts. Tea signifies the respect to the institution of marriage. The traditional dragees are candy coated almonds. Mine was a chocolate coated dragees. Almond with its sweet and bitter taste represents the marriage in its ups and downs. While having a sweet coating is well wishes for a blissful and sweet marriage. There's always something new to learn each day, isn't it?

pain in my ass

Take it literally. My back pain is acting up frequently. I hate this kind of feeling where everything is so abnormal. I can feel the strain at the top of my back, due to over-compensating to relieve the stress on the lumbar 4th and 5th disc. Then, sometimes there would be a sharp pull from the side of my back, momentarily freeze me and my face just crumpled up in unbelieveable annoying pain. If not, there would be weird sensation following me. Just to name a few - "burning" sensation as if suddenly my leg is near to a fire source. "pins and needles". "numbness" and recently a new form of pain cascade. Starting from my left groin area. This acute sharp pain would kick in whenever I stand up after sitting down for a while. Then I won't be able to walk, because if I do, I would be totally limping like a cripple. Give it another 5 minutes, I'm back to normal but the leg will just go through the whole cycle of numbness, pins and needles and then back to...

Prayer Answered

Thank you God that Charmaine has made it through. Thank you God for the answered prayers.

which country am i from?

Image
Heard this from the radio this morning and it prompted me to make a search for this headline. Can't believe that we have such uncivilized people in this country. Extracted from STOMP ( http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/what_bugs_me/274588/parents_allow_kid_to_poo.html ) A STOMPer's friend was disgusted when the family seated at the table next to hers at Opera foodcourt in Ion allowed their daughter to poop in a potty right in the middle of the place. Says this STOMPer's friend: "My friend showed me this photo while she was at Opera foodcourt at Ion. "It's at about 7 pm on a Saturday, meaning there are a LOT of people and this family of three generations were seated at the table next to her. "One of the girls' needed to take a dump, so they took out a pot for her to dump in...right in the middle of the foodcourt. "She said it was damn smelly and gross because she was seated right next to them. "So uncivilised." Indeed, I won...

When the World goes uPsiDe doWn

Horrible day, isn't it? Two heart wrenching news within 48 hours. I have been following feisty princess Charmaine's journey to recovery and got to know the grim news. Lil' Char is HAMA positive. What's HAMA? What's the implication for Charmaine's 3F8 treatment? I don't know. Seriously, I have very little knowledge of this neuroblastoma. But I have seen the spirit to fight against all odds and this touches me alot. I have no words to comfort them. How do you comfort the mummy when her baby is terribly sick? How do you assure the little one that all is well when her life is still dangling precariously? Their fight has not ended yet. I know they will continue to fight and won't give up... not even till the last moment. For such feisty attitude and tenacity to fight against all odds, the minimum I can do is offer a prayer for them. May God just watch over Charmaine and family. After this grim news, radio and newspaper reported a newly wedded groom fell to hi...
