My home church organised a 1-day JB Makan trip yesterday. The response was great with 3 buses loaded of people looking forward to an exciting day. Since it was a makan trip, we wasted no time in sampling all the local fares. Our first stop was at a Kampong for good old Nasi Lemak. Homemade sambal with quail eggs, fried kampong chicken whose meat was really tender and mini curry puffs. There were also ikan bilis and peanuts. Coconut snacks were dessert. There was also the popular fried mushrooms. Then we were showed how the kampong people grow their mushrooms. Using the eco-biotech method, the people used a combination of sawdust and water, adding in lime powder, the mushroom packs were placed in a dark house to cultivate. Bloom bloom.... the mushroom sprang to live in a few days time. After the visit to the mushroom farm, we proceeded for morning tea. We arrived at this grand Pontian Hotel for a spread of dry mee siam, cakes, fried bananas and local dessert which was green bean sago wi
